From the book: All My Cake & What It Cost Me, Chapter 4: One Choice at a Time.
A Today Moment is a single, deliberate decision made in the here and now, with no expectation of perfection.
A small decision gives you evidence that you can act differently.
In All My Cake & What It Cost Me, I share this idea through lived experience rather than as a perfect formula. Knowing that something should change and knowing how to make that change fit into an ordinary life are not the same thing.
Why does this matter?
Many habits operate beneath our awareness. They can be tied to family, culture, comfort, fear, or earlier attempts that did not last. When we treat the habit only as a failure of willpower, we may miss the practical and emotional forces keeping it in place.
Understanding those forces is not an excuse. It is useful information. Once the pattern becomes visible, the next decision becomes easier to define.
What can you do with this idea?
Keep the action small enough to observe. Notice what happens before the choice, what makes it difficult, and what helps you respond differently. The purpose is not to prove that you will never struggle again. The purpose is to learn what supports a better decision in a real moment.
A small decision gives you evidence that you can act differently. If the next choice goes differently, the earlier progress still counts. You can return, adjust, and create another opportunity without turning one setback into a final verdict.

The larger lesson is that change becomes more approachable when it is connected to awareness, choice, and self-respect. We do not have to deny the past or demand a perfect future. We can decide what belongs in the next moment.
