The World of Aragost
Terms & Glossary
A field guide to the names, creatures, places, and uneasy truths whispered through Aragost.
A living document, kept by the author and added to as the city gives up its language.
Main Terms
The words the city is built on.
Aragost
The city itself: a rain-slick modern place where ordinary life and supernatural rot share the same address. It looks like anywhere. It is not.
Tallow
Ordinary humans, from the perspective of what feeds on them. Dismissive and dangerous: soft, useful, and meant to be burned.
The Rot
The malevolent supernatural underworld of Aragost—the nest of beings beneath the surface. The current canon term for the worst things in the city.
The Wound Choir
The six vengeance spirits bonded to Dee’s life spirit, making her a revenant.
Revenant
One whose death did not finish, and who returned to close the gap. Dee is a revenant; her case is its own long story.
The Lexicon
Ashmouth. A weapon Dee carries; a frequent vessel for The Punisher when wrath rises.
The Butterfly Landing. Mel’s domain. No one crosses it unless they are ready to answer to her.
Bargain. An agreement struck with something that should never be negotiated with. The terms are always honoured; the cost is rarely the one you read.
Gravetread. Dee’s haunted combat cruiser; a bonded vessel for The Blight.
Manifestation. The colour that rises in Dee’s eyes when one of the Six surfaces. See Rules & Manifestations.
Null Fang. A blade that carries The Quiet—cold mercy, severed emotion, stillness.
Sanctuary. A warded space. No blood in sanctuary is the oldest rule in Aragost.
The Thinning. A place or hour where the wall between worlds wears through. Aragost has many, and adds more.
Whisper Fang. A blade that carries The Whisper—secrets, seduction, and illusion.
Witchbite. A weapon that channels The Witness—truth, memory, revelation.
Nothing by that name answers.
The city keeps some words to itself. Try another.
